They tell us we should use the things in life with moderation and we should not become enslaved to anything in life, other than Jesus Christ.  The list of addictions facing people is growing.  I think some have become addicted to text messaging and perhaps even to cell phones and iPods.

We know that the work of catechists is basic to our religion and to our parish life.  We appreciate our catechists, their spouses and families.  I mention spouses and families because a catechist’s service depends on the support and cooperation of an entire family.  When the catechist is in class, someone is in charge at home; dishes have to be washed, dinner has to be prepared.  Thank you, Catechists, and your spouses and family.  This Sunday, March 30th, we have invited the catechists and their families to pray in thanksgiving for what God allows them to do at a Mass of Thanksgiving at 4:30 p.m. in our Church.  Right after Mass, there will be a dinner for the catechists and their families.

As you expect, the Mass and dinner is the idea of Sr. Kathleen Scanlon, our parish Director of Religious Education.  I have recently been informed by Sr. Kathleen that her religious community of the Religious of Jesus and Mary has called her to be one of the counselors for the community.  That she would receive such an important post is very understandable because she is very competent and exemplary religious.

While I can understand that her community needs her, I must admit that I am distressed that she will be leaving Resurrection.  It is and will be a great loss to all of us and to me.  She has organized and administered a great Parish Religious Education Program and has stressed the importance of family involvement in the spiritual development of children.  Among other things, she has been the mainstay of religious education taught by parents to their own children at home.  Sister Kathleen has met regularly with the group of parents involved in the Home Family Program.

We will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving for Sr. Kathleen on Saturday, May 31st at 5:00 p.m. and there will be a reception for her right after the Mass in the Church Hall.

A search committee has been formed in our parish, and we are encouraging applicants for the position of Director of Religious Education at Resurrection to contact me about setting up interviews with the search committee.
                                       Sincerely yours
                                        Msgr. Patrick J. Boyle,
