the ceremony of light and the baptisms on Holy Saturday night and then, the glorious music and joy of Easter. All this is in a real sense, theatre but it is theatre in the service of prayer, of worship. Crowds traditionally come out for these ceremonies but how unfortunate if we come only to be caught up in the theatre and don’t get through the theatre to the reality that it reflects, the love of God for a struggling, sinful humanity, yours and mine, as expressed in the suffering, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
